Kansas girls return “home”

Starting this evening, Beale and I will be assistant directing the Kansas Journalism Institute at The University of Kansas. This week-long job will allow me to expose Beale to about 120 high school students… all of whom will want to play with her. It should be a good chance to work on her focus.

Luckily, Beale and I have been in Kansas for the past week without Beale’s dad, Jack. We have been preparing for camp, shopping and going out to eat with my family (and some KSDS friends!) in Kansas City and we took a trip to The Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

Beale wasn't quite ready for the Lake of the Ozarks, but she wanted to take a dip.

Later in the day, Beale braved the Lake with the little girls. She did wonderfully playing with the kids without being too much for them.

That night, Beale met a raccoon! Don't worry, it was through a sliding glass door.

We had fun at the Lake of the Ozarks with our friend Lauren, but we were happy to go "home" to Kansas City.

After seeing how much Beale loves the water, I had to take her to the Mutt Run in Lawrence.

This time together has made Beale into a mamma’s girl. (She usually prefers Jack’s company to mine… but I can’t fault her for that, I like Jack, too.) She has been following me all over the house and can’t stand it when I ignore her. I hope the neediness subsides when we get back to Sacramento, but it will be nice during camp because I trust her to stay by my side (even without a leash!).

Love from Shawnee, Kansas,

Becka and Beale
